If your your a fan of GRID 1 drifting and are disappointed that it look like Codemasters going to drop drifting in GRID 2, might want to checkout Assetto Corsa sim.

I started a thread over at Codemasters GRID 2 forum after watching a couple drifting Assetto Corsa videos:

A GRID 2 replacement for those that like drifting?

Also here a link to video footage of Assetto Corsa at Gamescom 2012 ( SimBin & Kunos Simulazioni are hoping for a release in 2012 ):

Wait, they're going to drop drifting too?
I knew about destruction derby, but drifting... note that I  do not like drifting, but come on, what's left in the game?

I think I'll go for Project Cars or RFactor2... don't know yet which one will be easier to mod, but trailers are impressive...

Was reading article about new sim Assetto Corsa and saw mention of drifting ( towards bottom of article ).

Assetto Corsa – Autumn development update.

By this time I had been lapping constantly for nearly ninety minutes, and despite the efforts of Marco with his stethoscope to try to distract me, I wasn’t stopping!  But the darkness beckoned and with it my return flight.  So I finally stepped out of the chair, at which point Aris demonstrated the “drift mode”.  A feature that a “purist” like me finds rather silly, but it does really show off the deftness of the tyre model, that lets a driver literally drive around like a raving maniac and stay alive.  Scoring points for “time spent sideways” is something I’d never thought of for a sim, but it certain raises a smile.

Assetto Corsa tentative release date was before the end of 2012, now release date been push back to March 2013 to polish up the game and get it ready for release. Assetto Corsa may be the first sim getting release in 2013. Pcars still in alpha and rFactor 2 still in beta. Sim racers may have a tough time deciding which game to buy.

An Assetto Corsa demo getting close to being ready to be released:

Assetto Corsa – Ferrari Previews & Tech Demo Update

Kunos Simulazioni has released new previews of their Assetto Corsa simulation, showing off the Ferrari F458.

Furthermore, Kunos has released a lithe status update on the Techonology Preview Demo that will give sim racers the first chance to give the new title a try.

Hello there! Finally, the work on version 1.0.0 of the Assetto Corsa Technology Preview is in progress. Therefore, soon, we’ll see how the Assetto Corsa engine and GUI run on thousands of PCs.
As the current development build seems to be stable and smooth on different configurations in beta testing, we are cautiously optimistic. The Assetto Corsa engine already runs all day long on dozens of professional simulators all around the world without issues; but gamers are a special breed, you know.

In the absence of any serious issues, we may be able to close off a public build within a short time period. And soon we will be in a position to also announce the minimum hardware requirements you will need to run Assetto Corsa.
We thank you all for your patience, we know you are looking forward to trying this build on your own PCs, but you cannot believe how many small details need to be addressed when releasing a build featuring only one car and one track.
Anyway, we would like to thank you profusely for your patience. We have a little surprise for you all: Following your suggestions, instead of using the 500 Abarth, that will be added in a future demo car list, a guest-star car will be included in this Tech Preview.

We are confident that you will appreciate it; the car manufacturers in question have already sent us their approval to include it in this upcoming benchmark. It is a perfect match for the Magione racing circuit, a lightweight sportscar perfectly suited to the Autodromo Dell’Umbria’s switchbacks.

We aim to offer you an enjoyable challenge, even if the Tech Preview is just a benchmark, and is not to be considered a full demo of the Assetto Corsa racing game.

Assetto Corsa will be powered by a brand new DirectX 11 graphics engine and will come with advanced features such as blur & DOF. The title will offer extensive modding support as well as ten laser-scanned tracks and fully licensed cars as well as AI – A first for a Kunos title.

Assetto Corsa will be available in Q1 2013, the title will feature licensed cars from manufacturers such as Ferrari, BMW & Lotus. Assetto Corsa is set to be released in Q1 2013, a first “technology preview” demo is due to be out in a few weeks.

A demo for the general public will be release after the tech preview demo is release:

Assetto Corsa - The technology preview will be open to netKar Pro owners as we need to also test the activation method with their paycode and also as a tribute to their support. A proper demo will follow later for everyone else.
