Robert Clemens and Jan Bodenstein (the creators of Crashday) are supporting the crowd-funding-project for the new Carmageddon Game.

Jan Bodenstein reports on the kickstarter Homepage: "I would go so far as the game back then was responsible how my whole life has developed... So, don't even thought about it!"

Robert Clemens posts on facebook: "...Carmageddon is one of the reasons we made "Crashday"? Let's all hope it comes back indeed!"

Have a look on the kickstarter page and support this great game:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stainlessgames/carmageddon-reincarnation

The devs of Carmageddon will make it easy to mod: "Supporting the mod community is really important to us.  The game is built with mods in mind. We'll be releasing tools for the community to use (based on the ones we're using here to make the game), at the earliest opportunity."

Let´s support Carmageddon and we will be able to make the greatest Crashday mod out of it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2FWyxF4saE

Flatout Joint is the best plattform for a great Crashday mod for the new Carmageddon!

Thanks Dark_Pontifex for the link. I just did the $25 pledge for Carmageddon: Reincarnation:

Pledge $25 or more

1747 Backers

VIP (VERY IMFLAMMABLE PENGUINS): Access to exclusive discussion forums on the carmageddon.com website, where content will also be posted ahead of appearing on the main site. You will also be granted early Beta access to the game, and early access to the official Steam Community game discussion forum. Plus, you get a personal avatar for the site. (+Previous Rewards)

With Flatout 3 being a bust and it don't look like BugBear will be getting the rights to Flatout any time soon if not ever, might be time to give Carmageddon a look.

Nice thing is, Stainless will self publish Carmageddon: Reincarnation. No publisher this time to screw things up like what Strategy First did with Flatout 3.

You guys got 19 more days to make a pledge.

I might donate if the game supports steering wheels. I searched for Carmageddon and found a site with FlatOut1 cars added. Should be a good game. I liked Road Rash because it had pedestrians and traffic to dodge while you fought off other racers.  Smiley

I found the Speedbowl track from FO2 also in the downloads. I wonder if it from the original FO2 files?

stainless confirmed to include steering-wheelsupport! Tehy want the new game to be very open for the modding community. I´m really loooking forward for some crashday/flatout-mods.

Still they need 110.000 $ for the kickstart. So let´s spread the message: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stainlessgames/carmageddon-reincarnation

and we make it happen!!!

Stainless has pass the $400,000 pledge level they were shooting for. Today total pledges are $415,306. There still 10 more days to make a pledge if want to get in on the beta testing.

Here the text from an email sent to me of a Q & A some the devs ( nobby, Trifle, and Simista ) did:

Carmageddon: Reincarnation natter with nobby, Sim & Trifle... AMA (self.IAmA)
submitted 8 days ago* by nobby_SG
UPDATE!!! : 2ND AMA! THIS FRIDAY! 6:00PM BST!! (25th May 2012)
Hi, I'm Neil (nobby) Barnden, co-founder of Stainless Games and Exec Director on Carmageddon: Reincarnation. I've been working on the project with a small team at Stainless, since we bought back the IP rights to the Carmageddon brand near the end of 2010. We're currently running a Kickstarter campaign to help fund Carma:R to its first release in Feb. 2013. I'm here tonight (and I mean tonight, it's late... for me) with fellow team members, Producer Dave (Trifle) Hosier, and Sim (Simista) McDermott. We'll be here for the next two hours to tag team your questions. So... AMA!
EDIT: Well guys, it's been a lovely evening in your company - we've all been laffing here at the great comments, feedback and suggestions. We've answered as many questions as we could - apologies to anyone that we didn't have the time to get around to. But the time has come for Sim and Dave to wheel me back to the Home, before lockdown... Thanks to everyone who contributed, take care and goodnight!

Here some new info I got in a few emails:

Returning features

·         There  will be a return of the American Football players and stadium (including the Electro b***** Ray power up placed in the corner!)

·         Include a classic sound set – for those who didn’t know Nobby was 90% of the non-female character sound effects!

·         We love the severed hand and would like to bring it back

·         The Damage gallery after the race is returning

·         You will be happy to know Dr Kev and his awesome physics are returning!

·         Handling should feel like Carmageddon 1

·         We are keeping and even expanding on the massive environments

·         Car splitting is going in!

·         Classic Carmageddon animals will return along with new animals!

·         Lan Multiplayer is something we want

·         The game will be highly moddable! – including skinning pedestrians to how you want!

New features

·         There will be extra rewards for people who like to explore

·         Old people sporting oxygen tanks that go BOOM (suggested by Mad_Maxine) are going in!

·         Drivers are not going to be running around but vehicles will have drivers who can be ejected through the windshield in a heavy impact. (Although some drivers may actually turn up as special, high value peds in certain levels...) Wink

·         Easter eggs will be in the game

·         Solid granite pedestrian power up

·         Splatter decals on the car bodies

·         There will be leaderbaords and achievements!

·         There won’t be massive destructible environments simply because of the time and resources it would take up, there will of course be feature" geometry that can be trashed, lots of lamp-posts to use as pedestrian pool cues, and of course masses of GLASS!

·         There will be lots of cool stats to look at

Other

·         Carmageddon & GOG – “Stay tuned for further announcements... Wink” we can confirm we are looking into this at the moment and will let you lot here at Kickstarter know as soon as we know more!

·         For those that choose the “be a pedestrian” reward it’s as simple as sending a few pictures of yourself in good light!

·         We are currently looking into using the original sound track for Carmageddon! This is something we want too!

·         Carmageddon: reincarnation will be more closer to Carmageddon 1 than 2

·         Number of peds per level will vary depending on the environment, our prototype city level has 1500 for a nice level of density.

·         Steam workshop is something we are looking into

·         We have to balance level of detail with maintaining a consistent high frame-rate

Stainless Turbocharges Their Kickstarter Campaign with GOG.com

Original game from the acclaimed series coming soon to GOG.com; free copies to be given to all backers who pledge $25 and above towards Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

Southern England, UK 18th May 2012.

Stainless Games today announced a partnership with digital distributor GOG.com. Together they are pleased to announce the return to Windows PC of the original “Points for Pedestrians” driving game ‘Carmageddon’ (plus its add-on pack, ‘The Splat Pack’) in the near future, As part of Stainless Games’ Kickstarter campaign to fund an all-new sequel, Carmageddon: Reincarnation, GOG.com and Stainless Games will be providing a free copy of Carmageddon and the expansion to all backers who pledge $25 and above towards the making of Reincarnation.

Neil Barnden, Stainless co-founder and Executive Director on Carmageddon: Reincarnation said, “Since we got the rights to Carmageddon back, we’ve been hearing from the community how much they’d love to be able to play the original games again, on a modern Windows PC. We’ve been hearing this message even louder since launching our Kickstarter campaign to help fund our next title in the series, Carmageddon: Reincarnation. The message from the gaming community is loud and clear: Give us something to play, while we wait for the new Carmageddon!  So, that’s exactly what we’ve done.”

Trevor Longino, Head of Marketing and PR at GOG.com, said, “Many of us at GOG.com are big fans of the Carmageddon franchise, and the Carmageddon games are perfect examples of the kind of classic games that we love to bring to our gamers: great gameplay, tons of fun, and a unique experience. Being able to help support the developers by providing backers with copies of this classic game was just icing on the cake for us”. Carmageddon is currently undergoing preparation at the hands of GOG.com's expert contentologists, and will be added to the catalog as soon as possible.

Patrick Buckland, Stainless CEO added, “Thanks to our friends at GOG.com, the streets of Bleak City will once again echo to the screams of little old ladies shrieking, “I was in the war!” as they (and their walking frames) go sailing through the air.”

The free download vouchers will be available as part of the Rewards package to all backers who pledge $25 or more on the Kickstarter campaign page for Carmageddon; Reincarnation. Backers will be able to download their free copy of Carmageddon & The Splat Pack, as soon as they launch on GOG.com later in the year.

The campaign smashed through the 50% funding barrier in under a week – with over 9000 fans already supporting the effort to reincarnate this classic!

Carmageddon was originally released in 1997, and pioneered the concept of drive anywhere, “play the way you want to play” gaming. It was both celebrated and controversial in equal measure, winning awards while gaining notoriety as the poster child for everything that’s wrong – and therefore right – in videogames.

However, new machines and operating system make it difficult to play the old game on current PCs without engaging in complex technical shenanigans involving wrappers and patches, curses and prayer. This is where GOG come in, as they specialize in creating and selling ‘remastered’ versions of classic PC games, so they work ‘out-of-the-box’ on current generation PCs.

For non-Kickstarter fans, the Carmageddon 1 (plus Splat Pack) will be available to buy and download as a single package for $9.99 from GOG.com sometime soon.

'Carmageddon: Reincarnation' is being developed for digital download, for which Stainless Games have built an enviable worldwide reputation, with numerous cross-platform releases and multiple No.1 titles on XBLA.

'Carmageddon: Reincarnation' (ALL) Kickstarter Campaign Successful

The Carmageddon community means the world to us, and over the years a dedicated army of Modders continued to develop content for the original games. We’ll be making sure that the tools we use to craft the game are developed in such a way that we can release them as well, thus making player-generated content a central part of the Carmageddon: Reincarnation experience.

Stainless surpasses it $400,000 goal and raise $625,143 in pledges by the end of Kickstarter drive. By breaking the $600,000 goal, Stainless will do a Linux version of Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

Here a pic one of the cars being work on for Carmageddon Reincarnation. Keep in mind this is pre-alpha rendering of the game.

These in-game screenshots obviously show work still very much in progress. In particular, they're using an interim renderer, which is why there's not much texturing on show. We have a brand spanking new "deferred renderer" (which also supports Mega Texturing) that's been written from the ground up and is soon to be plugged in. At that point we'll be able to start applying final textures to car and track geometry using the updated tools, and know that what we're seeing is what we're meant to get! So look forward to much more sparkly spanky spunky screenshots and movies from the game... In The New Year!!™

*****************************************************

Now that Stainless has a bigger budget to work with, they said this, "we’ve scheduled the work and now know it’s going to take us the best part of 2013 to complete it". So maybe by next Christmas, we have final version of Carmageddon Reincarnation ready to be release.

I hope we get to do some beta testing this summer thou.

My pledge includes Beta Testing also. I am being patient myself. It looks like they are going to be modding friendly. The steering wheel support makes it a good investment.

I am tired of X-Box 360 controller ported games by companies that are to money minded to support players who can only pray that the game will support a steering wheel.
