i've been trying to install the 1.2 patch with the install program, but every time it says this: " the setup has detected that no version of flatOut 2 is currently installed."  |

Did you install Flatout 2 into Windows? Patch installer will check Window registry to see if Flatout 2 been installed.
You did download the right v1.2 patch? There a Euro version and a US version.

i have the US patch, but how do i register the game? i installed it correctly, but i didn't know it needed registry...

You did put all 3 files in your Flatout 2 folder?
flatout2.exe - v1.2
patch1.bfs
patch
The new flatout2.exe will still ask for the disk. Do you got retail version ( 5 CDs ) or you got Steam version?
If got Steam version of Flatout 2, it already patch to v1.2.

all the files are in the folder, i bought it on Amazon, so i guess it may be the retail version.

You did not answer the question; do you have 5CDs , 1DVD or did you download the game from Steam?

If have a DVD disk, odds are you got EURO version.
Easy way to test this, is use stock flatout2.exe that came from the DVD disk and no patch file, start FO2 and go multiplayer option and start a host. Now see if you can chat.
Bugbear forgot to add text chat to EURO version and was added in the v1.2 patch. In US version there a chat window and hitting the Delete key will let you type a text message.
The other fix, would be to get noCD v1.2 exe file that does not ask for a disk. Since you do have a disk, then it OK to use a noCD\noDVD exe file for game. But if you have Euro version of FO2, you are going to want the Euro v1.2 patch so you can get the euro version of patch1.bfs file.

Google "v1.2 nocd flatout".
Be sure to have a good anti version program running. My Avast got trigger one time trying to downloading a noCD exe.

I have gone to site that has a noCD for Flatout and it trigger my Avast. Definitely need a anti-virus program if going to visit these sites.
