Hi Guys...
Just installed the FO2 game this month ( Aug 2012 ).
I need to know how to add a car I convert into the game.
Where do I put it?What files besides the "car" file do I need and where do I put those?Do I modify or make some txt type file?
Please explain how to add ONE addon extra car to the game.
Thanks a bunch!

Easiest way for me was to download a car pack, or individual car.  Use the Unpack utility, then you can see the folder structure & you will know where to put the pieces of the car, Menu items, engine sounds, ect..  Starting with an Unpacked version of the main Custom Car mods from FOJ.

Yo Guys...
I still need a bit more info.
I downloaded the car "car85_CokeTruck_beta_2.bfs" and in the readme it says "Your patch {the icon without an extension(NOT patch1.bfs)} should be edited (by right clicking /open with/notepad)" and put the entry car85_CokeTruck_beta_2.bfs.
Help!! I do NOT have any patch or patch1.bfs in my folder to put that entry in.Please explain in more detail what I have to do.I just want to put ONE car in for now to test some stuff,NO mods. Thanks!

Sound like you have not patch your Flatout 2. It stock v1.0 if don't have a patch and patch1.bfs files. You do have a filesystem file?

Do you have Euro or US version of FO2?

I have US ( 5 CDs ). The stock flatout2.exe is 6624 KB. US version also has text chat if startup an online\LAN host. Stock v1.0 Euro version of FO2 does not have text chat.

Here link to the EURO and US patches:

Most our mods only work with v1.2 Flatout 2.

Yo Guys....
I need MORE help now...lol...
Ok here is what I did up to now:
1-Patched the 1.0 US FO2 version to 1.2
2-BFS unpacked 4 bfs files:
a,b and c and the patch1.bfs
3-renamed 2 files to:
filesystembk and patchbk
4-Did the GIEVEPIX code to see all cars in single player
5-Downloaded an opened car with folder named car_90
6-Put that folder with all the contents into the FO2 "cars" folder
7-Fired up the game but that car did not show in the menu
Game works good with the original cars.
What am I missing here?
All your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have to download all 5 parts of the FOJ Community Mod before any custom cars or tracks will work in the game.

Hi Guys....
Please be more specific on the files I need just for my ONE car to work in FO1.
For people like me that have never modified FO2 just saying "download all 5 parts of the FOJ Community Mod" isn't specific enough.
On this page: http://flatoutjoint.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=38&func=select&id=91
Which files do I need just for my ONE addon car to work in FO2?
Carpack 3 addon
Complete FOJ Mod in one .exe file
DD Pack for Community Mod
FOJ C Mod Carpack2 Part 4 of 4
FOJ Community Mod For Flatout 2
FOJ_Cmod_AI_profile_mods
GRID\Fig8 trackpack
Updates 2 for FOJ Community Mod for FO 2 (part 5)
============================================
OR are the files I must have on this page:
http://flatoutjoint.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=27&func=select&id=3
Which files do I need just for my ONE addon car to work?
Cars - Misc
Cars - Pack 1
Cars - Pack 2
Cars - Pack 3
Cars - Pack 4
Mods
etc,etc
There are just too many files that are similar for me to make the correct choice.
If you have time maybe post a direct link to each file I need just to get my ONE car to work in FO2.I appreciate your help!
Thanks!

Hi,  the:

Cars - Misc
Cars - Pack 1
Cars - Pack 2
Cars - Pack 3
Cars - Pack 4

section is where the car modders put some their cars they been working on. Some the cars to download are beta versions and some are unpack files, some are pack into bfs files.

The carpacks you see for downloading are what we call final versions. The carpacks have gone through some testing and should work OK. But custom cars need the community mod for them to work.

The FOJ community mod for Flatout 2, is a lot mods done for FO2 by our modders and put into big mod bfs files and tested to work together. When community mod first got release, it was 3 parts, part 1 let you add 45 custom cars and give extra single player options, part 2 is the new custom tracks we did for FO2 and part 3 is our first carpack for FO2. We could of made it one big bfs file, but then you would have a huge file to download, so we broke community mod into 3 parts.

Then months later the car modders had enough cars ready for a second carpack ( carpack 2 ), so we release part 4.

Then few months later we had some more custom tracks to add to community mod and added my stand alone derby pit pack to the community mod without derby pack interfering with the other tracks in FO2, so part 5 was release. Also part 5 included De Stan's Mod manager to make it easy to change your patch file from stock patch to a modded patch file to load custom bfs files with a click of your mouse.

Parts 1-5 are the main parts of our Community mod for Flatout 2 and easiest way to enjoy our mods for Flatout 2.

patch1.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Trackpack1.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Carpack1.bfs
FOJs_Carpack2_and_updates.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Updates2.bfs

Now there some extra mods that have been made since part 5 got release that you could add to your patch file. You could add carpack 3 that over writes carpack 1 cars or add Heddly's carpack 4 that over writes carpack 2 cars.

patch1.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Trackpack1.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Carpack1.bfs
FOJs_Carpack2_and_updates.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Updates2.bfs
FOJ_C_MOD_Carpack3_addon.bfs
Heddlys_CustomCars_Pack4_part_1.bfs
Heddlys_CustomCars_Pack4_part_2.bfs

Or could add the Jupiter and some GRID derby tracks to FO2 and the Bluesmobile. These custom cars will over write the custom cars in carpack 1 & 2. Be sure to read the readme of custom cars you download so you know what car slot custom car will use. And it possible to renumber custom cars for FO2 if custom car overwrite a custom car in a carpack you want to keep.

patch1.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Trackpack1.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Carpack1.bfs
FOJs_Carpack2_and_updates.bfs
FOJs_Community_Mod_Updates2.bfs
GRID-fig8-jup-trackpack.bfs
bluesmobile_car_128.bfs
purplevelleskin.bfs
race_start.bfs

I suggest you get the 5 parts of community mod for FO2 and then if you want to tweak community mod, add new bfs files after FOJs_Community_Mod_Updates2.bfs in the patch file.

Also when it come to adding mods to your Flatout 2 game, it best to keep your game packed and add mods by adding bfs files to your patch file. We only unpack Flatout 1 and 2 to make our mods ( test them ), then pack up our tweaked files into a bfs file. If a modded bfs cause an error, can remove bfs file from patch and your modded Flatout 2 is back to normal. Not so easy with an unpacked Flatout 2.

You can have a 1000 bfs files in your Flatout 2 folder, game will only load the bfs files that are listed in filesystem and patch files. I got over 300 bfs files in my Flatout 2 folder. Game read the filesystem first and then load the bfs files listed in the patch file in the order they are listed.

Warning, the carpack 4 button in mod manager is not for Heddly's carpack 4 mod. carpack 4 button will look for "FOJ_C_MOD_carpack4_addon.bfs" and give an error when file not found. Same goes for carpack 5 button. These 2 mods have not been done yet, mod manager was ready for them if they ever got done. Wink
