PurplePack mod is ready to download over at our site at  Moddb.com. Again thanks go out to Moddb for hosting our big mods!!

PurplePack for Community Mod

About the PurplePack:

Now that the GameSpy Flatout 2 online severs are turned off and we have had to move to Tunngle or GameRanger to race online using the LAN option in Flatout 2, I thought it be a good time to release a new carpack with some of Heddly cars I would like to race online with the guys I race with on Saturdays nights. And some extra stuff for good measure. Some of the PurplePack content has been release before ( like the GIRD F8 Jupiter trackpack and Heddly's Tripack ) and some the content is brand spanking new.

List of cars in PurplePack:

car_46 > GRID Jupiter
car_89 > Gokart, helmet version
car_94 > Egg Car
car_97 > Kiwi DIRT Midget
car_100 > GTA4 Fire Truck
car_101 > GTA4 Limo
car_102 > GRID Boss Mustang
car_103 > NFS Carbon Cop Car
car _115 > Dune Buggy
car_116 > Faltout 3 Mosquitah
car_117 > The Great Pumpkin
car_118 > HumT
car_120 > DIRT FRL Truck
car_121 > Munster's Coffin Car
car_122 > GTA Ambulance
car_138 > DIRT2 Dallara
car_139 > Demo Dozer

Extra stuff:

Skin:   Hippie skin for the bus

Tracks:  ( arrow down to get to custom track row when selecting a track )

City Central Crazy8 > City custom track
Parking Lot Fig8 > Race custom track
GRID Derby Race > Race custom track
GRID Derby Race Short > Fields custom track
F8 Mine Field >  Fields custom track
Deadmans Run > Events custom track

Replacement "bodies" for the stock cars:  ( only changes the look of some the stock cars, handling and speed stay the same )

car21_Crusader    Chopsader
car25_RoadKing      BossMustang
car29_BulletGT    68 Camaro
car41_Flatmobile  FLAT-O-SAURUS
car42_Mobcar      MobVert
car45_Truck       Concrete Mixer

About racing online now that the GameSpy online FO2 servers are turned off. We have found there are to programs, Tunngle and GameRanger, that tap into the LAN multiplayer option in Flatout 2 that will still let us race online together. We use the LAN option in Flatout 1 to race online, too. So we have seen this method use before.

I would suggest you install and register both Tunngle and GameRanger. Both programs have their advantages. GameRanger allow host to use a description for player's GameRanger lobby ( derby, clean racing ). With Tunngle, after logging into a game network ( like Flatout 2, Flatout Joint Mod ), you start your FO2 normally, but use the LAN icon option, instead of Online icon to join or start a host. I have been leaning more toward Tunngle. Seeing more players using Tunngle over GameRanger.

We been using Tunngle to test the PurplePack. Here some things we have seen using Tunngle.

1. Using the LAN option, FO 2 will show all hosts that are online under the network you join. Even if they are using different patch files. With FO2 Online option, FO2 would only show you hosts with the same files you loaded. So if running stock, online only showed stock host and if using a mod ( like community mod ), would only see hosts with the same mod ( database file ). Not so with Tunngle and using LAN mode.

Because of this, I have ask Tunngle to add a new Flatout 2 network for us that want to run a modded version of FO2, like the PurplePack mod. We were given a new network to join, called “Flatout 2 - Joint Mod”. So if running a stock patch file, join the stock guys under the “Flatout 2” network, if running the PurplePack mod, please use the “Flatout 2 - Joint Mod” network, so stock FO2 guys won't be trying to join your host.

2. I have been hosting the beta PurplePack and sometimes the guys had trouble jointing my host. Either they could not join host or join host and kick another player. We have seen this problem before with Flatout 1 when using Flatoutnet to race online. What seem to work to solve this problem is to have a player leave host and have player(s) that are having trouble joining my host, go join the other host. Then rejoin my host. This usually fixes the problem. It nice to have Teamspeak when this problem happens.

3. We had one player join the Tunngle network and did not see all players that were log into the “Flatout 2 - Joint Mod” network. This can be a problem if the host is one of the players not showing up in the player list. You can't join a host if host name not listed in the Tunngle network list. If this happens, suggest restart Tunngle and FO2 game.

********************************************************

Here a pic of Tunngle.

Need to be register and log into Tunngle and use the Community tab, then on the left-hand side you will see "Network Explorer". Click Sport and go to page 2. The Flatout networks will be listed at the bottom of the page.

If want to make a bookmark of say the "Flatout 2 - Joint Mod" network, right click on "Flatout 2 - Joint Mod" name and you will get option to make a bookmark. Then at the top page, star icon is for your bookmarks.

Here a pick of GameRanger. Need to register to use program.

Thanks go out to Heddly, mcoRoyce, Rodman, Sindy, Iowaboy and Thatgirl for helping out with the testing of the PurplePack and feedback.  Smiley

That beyond my abilities to write code like that. I'm only a track maker.

With Tunngle, you can black list players. I have not tried this yet to see how well it works. If a player can not see you listed in the Tunngle network list of players, that player will not be able to see your host in the Flatout 2 LAN host list.

Never mind, I'll make the night one. 8AM-5PM tomorrow is reserved for cello-playing in the region orchestra.

This is the second time I heard about this problem with Moddb and Gamefront. Going have to send off an email to moddb and see if they are aware of this problem.

A few Saturdays ago when we first was testing the Purplepack, one guy needed to download the GRID F8 trackpack and ran into this same problem and I log out of moddb and tested download at gamefront and got the same error when I tried to download GRID F8 trackpack. The next Saturday I tested again and gamefront download work that time.

I just tried gamefront to download the PurplePack and it work without an error. Rar unpack no problem. Seem gamefront has it good days and has it bad days!!

Could give gamefront another try today and see if it works. Also you could register with Moddb and avoid having to use gamefront.

************************************************

If you are a guest at Moddb and want to download a file, Moddb will send you off to gamefront to download it. If register and login to Moddb, you will get to download a file directly. No being redirected somewhere else.

The actually PurplePack.rar file may be on just one server and both places, Moddb and gamefront, download from the same server. But I do not know for sure.

I usually don't race on Wed. So doubt I can host. But a lot the other guys race Wed night, but I think they will be using stock Flatout 2 patch file on Wednesdays.

It Thanksgiving weekend this coming Saturday, will be out of town visiting family and getting stuff with turkey and devil eggs Thursday and spoiling some grand nieces and a grand nephew. Smiley

Here a couple of pics of the guys showing off some the cars to be found in the PurplePack last night:
